Also, can someone describe how the Rain and Inca lasts compare with Meermin's Hiro last? I've googled a bit and most say take the same size for all 3 of these lasts, but I'm trying to get a more accurate description of the differences.

Thanks.

Hi,

I don't know about the MEERMIN Hiro last, but bm93[/@ has just (in his couple most recent posts) very nicely and thoroughly described his first-hand experience from Inca vs. Rain.

Cheers

Dimitris

That's what most do. I'm Rain 7 and Uetam 7.5.

Thank you! Do you find the uetam pretty tight? I found it right w minimal heel slippage. Good fit for a loafer. Was afraid to size down but have no experience w rain.

I did a GMTO on their website. I probably should have ordered it in EE and not the standard E. Definitely will take some breaking in. Wide feet and high instep.

You can see some real life pictures of the burgundy calf oxford here

As far as Meermin's Hiro vs.Inca and Rain, I would say the Hiro last is overall more narrow than both. Compared to the Inca last, Hirohas a higher instep, narrower forefoot and slightly narrower toebox, and the heels are about the same. Compared to Rain, I would say the Hiro is narrower everywhere. Of the three, Hiro definitely fits the snuggest on me.

For the record, I wear the same size in all 3 shoes (UK7.5) and am a US8.5D/E on Brannock with a medium/high instep.

From widest to narrowest:

Heel: Rain > Inca = Hiro

Instep: Rain > Hiro > Inca

Forefoot/Midfoot: Rain = Inca > Hiro

Toebox: Inca > Rain > Hiro

I have both in the same size, and I would say that the fit is similar, with the exception that Inca has a narrower heel and noticeably lower instep. My Rain last shoes fit well with a little room in the instep, while Inca's instep was too tight and I had to get them stretched.

I agree here somewhat. For me, Rain fits me like a glove. Rain has a noticeably higher instep, but Inca has some extra room in the middle and especially forepart of the shoe, which (for me, at least) makes the lower instep easy to manage in the Inca. I personally don't see much difference in the heel fit. Both work well for me in the same size.

Well, it looks like Carmina's quality control has let one through. I just received my Rain snuff suede wingtips. They look great, but came with a huge gouge in the inside of the left shoe sole. The shoes otherwise are beauties. So frustrating to have perfection all around with a giant gouge in there! Any thoughts on how to solve this one?

When buying shoes from Europe in general, you really want to know you size. Returns are not easy and shipping is not cheap. If you are willing to bear those costs and bite your nails for weeks as the package sits in foreign customs, go for it.

Here is the blue.

I'd say that Betty is right. Their pics are pretty true to color.

Thanks for this. The navy blue on the site looks a shade darker, but maybe it's just lighting.

Yup I saw his replies, very helpful indeed, although I needed a comparison with the Hiro last to make it really useful to me.

This post is a great help! It looks like you and I have the same sizing. I also wear a 7.5UK in the Hiro last, and I have medium/high instep too. The Hiro is hard to get into, but once my feet are in they are snug and quite comfortable. The reason I was asking for a comparison is because of the snugness - if the Rain or Inca lasts were slightly narrower anywhere it could be a problem for me, but it looks like Hiro is narrower anywhere and I'll get a 7.5UK in Rain/Inca.

Carmina Rain in Black Cordovan size 8 UK

Meermin Hiro in Cherry Cordovan size 8.5 UK

With these sizes fitting heel to vamp is the same for me.

Rain is a bit tight on my pinky toe.

Hiro is tight on the instep not being able to close fully.

Throatline on Rain sits perfect while it's a bit roomy on Hiro.

Rain heel counter extends behind heel, while it seems flush on Hiro.

Rain with this size difference has a more shallow toe area than Hiro.

Other note, Carmina shoe-tree fits perfect in rain last.

Okay, I have just received my first pair of carmina, semi-brogue on rain last. I wonder whether the fit is right or not?

First of all, I take UK7 as of all my other European/English shoes. The toe area feels tight but instep feel normal. The shoelace open to a nice V shape.

The heel cup however is wide and a bit loose when walk. Plus, overall, the shoes seem shorter than my normal shoes when look from above.

Is this normal for rain last, or should i take a half size bigger?

The Rain last has a wide heel, which makes the last very difficult for many to fit properly, as the toebox is relatively narrow.

That is what I did, and I am happy with the fit.
