That's my experience as well. It's not that shell will get ruined in the rain, it's those damned spots that are unattractive and a bit of a PITA to remove.

Yeah, I keep reading this. But both my Aldens and my Carminas get spots all over when in contact with rain. And they're both regularly treated with Saphir Cordo Cream and occasionally wax.

On the other hand I have several pairs of well waxed calf leather shoes that remain their shine when used in rainy weather.

YMMV, I guess.

I agree that the spots are unattractive. I only get them on my whiskey shell so I guess cognac would be as susceptible.

My comment was based on "ruining shell", not spotting your shine. haha.

I also got them on my color 8 Aldens and I have not been able to get rid of them. I guess it's a matter of degree and how you define "ruined". Maybe my wording was too strong.

Anyway, this is all somewhat beside my original point which I realize I did not really make too clearly: Would there be interest in a group MTO for a

Balmoral boot in 800092 pattern
Forest last
Vegano Chestnut or Vegano Brown Calf
Dainite rubber sole

?

Would look somewhat like this:

Would sport this sole:

Leather would be a little more reddish brown.

Pics from Skoaktiebolaget who would also be contacted if there is enough interest.

Any interest?

Their soles (ar least for shell cordovans are from JR reidenbach)

Not true.  I recently bought a pair of shell cordovans directly from Carmina  http://www.carmina.telemaco.es/articulo.asp?idarticulo=3476665 and the soles, unlike this pair from Leaves, do not have the JR logo http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/02...ac-Cordovan-FEB-02_1024x1024.jpg?v=1392903723

FWIW, I seem to recall reading somewhere else on SF that not all JR soles have the logo on them.

Yep. It was in one of the Nick V versus DFW ***** fests.

This morning as I drove to work at 6:30 am, it was snowing.  It is supposed to be 48 and sunny this afternoon and 60 degress by Friday and down in the 30s on Sunday.  so you tell me how you should dress two weeks from now.

I suggest checking the forecast before you come and then pack for cold, warm, sunny and wet.

Brrr. Chicago seems to be cold. Leaving from HK tomorrow...

If you look up DFWII's posts, you'll see that he basically goes from thread to thread stirring up sh!t. Most recently he appears to have been terrorizing the St. Crispin's folks. He is INCREDIBLY knowledgeable and very generous with his information, and I always like to see him post, but (to put it mildly) he does not suffer gladly those he considers to be fools.

Zippy correctly identified the source of the bit of information above as an epic throwdown between DFWII and Nick from B. Nelson. It got pretty ugly.

I'm aware that JR soles are oak bark tanned. I'm wondering if Carmina's own (non-JR soles) are oak bark tanned.
I can't answer your question directly but what I can say is that they're not particularly durable leather soles. Not awful, definitely acceptable, but they are not top quality to be sure. They're wearing faster than any of my other leather soles.

supposed to be 60 degrees tomorrow. Lake Michigan will be filled with locals swimming and picking up the ladies in bikinis.

Kidding about the second sentence. But it is supposed to be habitable here over the next few days.

How funny, I recently read the thread about shoe stretching with them and it was very entertaining.

I wear my burgundy shell Carmina boots in the rain and while they get spotting, I find that some brushing and deer bone application remove all the blemishes. I have no experience with cognac shell though, so I'm unaware if that's more difficult to treat.
