Lol, I would have done the same if I had passed on them. I waited too long to buy the Shell Wiskey Derby they had, I think it was about $275 as well.

If they fit too tight I'll let you know, which I hope they don't.

I think I just might on the way home lol

Othertravel is correct about the Rain last....I have tried several pairs of shoes and Chukkas on the rain, and none of them feel right on me. I can wear my Chukkas in a 9 UK, but any oxford I have tried on fits way too tight for my liking. YET going up a half size is way too big and the shoe feels very full bodied. My chukka boots are suede, with a crepe sole, so that is probably the only reason that I can tolerate them. But all leather oxfords are a no go for me. I ended up exchanging a beautiful pair of wingtips on the rain last because I just couldn't get the fit right.

I wear a Simpson 9.5 comfortably however and in the Inca last I am good with a 9.

If I only had the money Steve...

Here is the last pair I bought from GF. They still look great since use has been really limited with interview season being all black shoes.

When they arrived parts of the shoe were really splotchy in color for some reason, but a little saphir fixed that perfectly. Who knows what they do to shoes on international shipping...

Anyone else tempted to do a black rain cap toe MTO at some point?

Steve's next step is to launch the possibility of paying for your shoes in instalments up to 24 MOS. Imagine the broke ass SFers who'll ruin their credit just for the love of shooz.

At some point in late '14 (still waiting for so many pairs of shoes) I would do that black balmoral on the Rain.

FWIW, I bought those saddle derbies during the last MTO. I wear a 7.5 in Simpson, 7.5 for all 3 of the G&G lasts, and 7.0 in St Crispin Classic and Chiseled lasts. I like my shoes to be comfortably snug.

The Rain in 7.5 was too loose for me. The length was right; but, there is too much volume in the instep for me. I experienced heel slippage, which I think was made worse by the fact that these shoes have a double sole. I still wear them, with thickish socks and a tongue pad to take up the excess volume. No more heel slippage. They are beautiful shoes, I've received lots of compliments. Since they are casual, I don't mind wearing thicker than usual socks with them. I doubt that I could have sized down, as the length would probably become an issue. I've been told that my instep is not particularly low, and I know that most standard width shoes fit well. It seems that Rain is just not a good fit for me.

Hope this helps...

They were listed as 7uk/8us. I typically wear an 8us or 7.5uk, and they fit very well. In fact, St C are the most comfortable shoes I own.
