Great! Let's see how your Rains go. I consider that at 4480 SEK (ex VAT, about US$683 at today's rates) this is very good buying. I don't know how the folks at Skoaktie do it, but reading some of their other posts, it seems like they have built a really strong relationship with Carmina, which is very much to the benefit of anyone who jumps on this MTO.

Where does Oscar fit into the last width hierarchy?

I looked in the carmina sizing thread. Is it similar to inca or rain or more to the narrower end?

Very tempted by the boots but I need the inca or rain width.

Good timing ... I just picked up my Oscar cognac cordovan boots from last year's MTO through Skoak. I should perhaps add that the the long wait was my problem and not Skoaks, who were great to deal with - I had them send the boots sent to Hong Kong to avoid customs in China, but then my planned trip there kept getting put back.

The Oscar last is now officially my favorite boot last. I wear a 11 in the Rain, and the width is just a little tight (but wearable) for me. The Oscar seems to be just a little wider at the base of the toebox (for me a great fit), but as Gerry points out a just a bit more sleek in the heel.

What do you all think of my Carmina cotton whole-cuts...?

No carpet in my apartment so I am using some airplane "slipper socks" to limit sole damage as I see whether these pair of beauties from the Armoury (Uetam last; burgundy cordovan) are going to work for me or not.

Nice boots.

Nitpicking, is the left boot lighter in color?

Thanks. Yes - the left boot is a little lighter but only by a shade and mainly just in the vamp above the toe-box.

Does anyone know which carmina lasts fit similar to the detroit last?

Sorry if my terminology is misleading. You asked about a Balmoral style. The 80184 style is not a Balmoral. The lower part of the lacing area (sorry, again I don't know the precise terminology) is a Derby style rather than an Oxford style. That was my meaning.

If you're after the Oxford style of lace-up boot, you could have a look at the 080092-025 as in an individual MTO. Skoaktiebolaget could arrange this for you, or you could go direct.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Those are really nice. I agree that this is a great boot last. I'm interested in the Derby style of lace-up (please, someone put me out of my misery and clarify the terminology for me!) because I think it allows for a looser way of lacing the boot up. I also prefer this toe shape to that of the Forest last, which to me looks too pointy for a casual boot.

The colour rocks. Having a slight variation in the colour between the two boots just demonstrates that this is a hand-made, rather than a mass-market product.

.

I like them.

The only concern I would have would be with the Simpson Last.

I currently have a shoe in the Rain Last and I find this to be snug.

I'd just want to make sure I got them in a Last that works for me and one that looks good with this design.

Member Count Update

Burnished Burgundy Austerity Brogue (Calf)

  • Simpson Last
  • Darker Sole for formal occasions if need be (black?)
  • Darker lining (not signature purple?)
  • No Shoe Trees (although can be purchased from Skoab at extra cost)

Buyer List:

  1. bdeuce22
  2. mrjester
  3. pinkpanther
  4. ChristianS

Can we get two more minimum? Going through Skoab since I have done most of my Carmina shopping through them with 0 issues and 10/10 customer service.
