If they're Cheaney, they'll have "Made in leather insoles England" stamped on the insole.

Quick assist fellas - are these Churchs?

Tough to say with certainty from just those pics, but I'm going to say yes. Church's sized some BB shoes with EU sizes and had a (now pretty much retired) 73 last. So the 42 D would work for sze and the E073 would work for the last. Good chance they are.

Here's a photo of what's written on the insole (other than what is pictured above). As you suggested, it's just back from the ball of the foot.

There's nothing written other than what's in the photos.

Yeah, I was sort of hoping that it says something like what tonylumpkin said too. I can't really say anything more with this.

Anyone recognize this script or toe pattern?

Thanks for all of the information and well-informed speculation.

It does, but not exactly. The heel pad looks similar to Alden too (not shown), but the toe pattern isnt the same as any Alden LWB I've seen.

Those are Mason all the way. Union Made. Proabably sold by a door to door salesman, back in the day. You might see them also sub-branded as Executive Imperials. You will usually see them with O'Sullivan Heels.

My instinct says C&J, seeing that. Does there appear to be another number below that one (or are my eyes deceiving me)?
