Came across this recently - it's the theme to the remake of Final Fantasy IV on the Nintendo DS.

My favourite Japanese singer is Sakamoto Maaya. A couple of examples of her in action:

She also sings the occasional song in English...

of all the newer mainstream singers... I think Christina Aguilera blows them all away. Her voice is so powerful and strong... coming out of an itty bitty body, it seems a little wierd, hah

Bessie Smith. Ella. Etta (James and Jones). Billie. Nina. Sarah Vaughan. Dinah Washington. Mae Barnes (highly obscure, but really fantastic). Astrud Gilberto. Diana Krall. Nancy Wilson. Odetta. Edith Piaf. and probably many more I can't think of at the moment.

I agree. As the AC/DC song goes, "She's got balls!"
Although I suppose Mariah could give her a run for her money.

I'd like to add Aretha Franklin and Ronnie Spector to my list.
