He is true in the most barest of sense. Fashion did not move as fast as it does currently and there were limits to what is considered appropriate for people of different classes. But all this is obvious since in the last 15 years fashion moves faster than it ever had. Fashion still existed though. Upper class members sprinkled gold dust in their hair as a fashion statement, men replicated the haircut of Caesar and Nero because it was fashionable. Boots with fur came into fashion because it became viewed as exotic though a few centuries before it would be associated only with barbarians and traders. Yes they may have mainly wore Stolas but the materials and popular patterns were at times influenced by fashion. Oh what I get out of fashion? The feeling that I am out of place and take runway styling too seriously. lol

Dude, i don't think the weight of denim and stitch counts are considered very manly outsite of the "fashion crowd".

yah, this whole fashion thing does warp the dichotomy. Although, that's what is important. Abandoning the gender attachment towards certain garments allow you to gain a sense of freedom, and you are more willing to experiment with many types of clothes. If you don't do this you end up constraining yourself to certain items, and thus limiting your style potential.
