Would you take a 50% pay cut to pursue your passion?

You'd have to clarify how much that 50% paycut would affect your desired standard of living.

I think most people would be pursuing passion if they didn't care about or need to maintain a certain level of income.

I only do things I'm passionate about so thankfully I don't need to take a cut in pay

I would have to live like Ghandi in order to pay my mortgage off.

Actually that is my plan in the next few years. I pretty much hate my life right now. My 16 year old son is battling Cancer (doing pretty well at the moment), I don't like my job, don't see any value in my marriage any more... I am trying to figure out what I can live without and whether I can find happiness doing something I enjoy. My fear is that I won't be happier and I'll be poor.

Definitely. Money is meaningless to me as long as it is over a certain bar. Luckily, 50% of my current income is > than the bar.

Just think about how great the world would be if not every single child was raised to believe he/she had to be a doctor or lawyer to be successful.

I am pretty passionate about what I do, so I think the question is whether I would do something I don't care about for twice the money. Probably not, although then I would be near the styleforum minimum income.

Goddamn I am jealous. Not only do you love your job, but you also have the best avatar on SF.

And with that...are you following your passion?

Nope. None of my passions make 50% of what I make. More like 12%.
