I just don't see this line making it. Maybe in a longwing or blucher, but balmorals???

Agreed. I saw one in-store, and it was as nice there as in pictures. Better looking than the Boston imho

I think all three of these are great and will sell well.

"Footwear designer" sounds like a real tough job.

Thanks for the post, Nick. Give AE's mgmt credit, they really are trying to elevate AE's game. I'm impressed with their efforts.

I'd love to see a longwing blucher in this line. To me, a monkstrap is just too elegant a shoe for this sort of finish.

Especially at Allen-Edmonds it is.
You have to figure out how to take a beautiful classic design and mess it up through excessive and unnecessary punching. It takes years to master this art.

I like all of them and hope the line succeeds. I've been a longtime admirer of Grenson, whose dress shoes fall on the more casual side of the spectrum. These 3 shoes take a good step in that direction.

Really wish they were bluchers. Would look much better. But I like them.

I got my pair of McTavish seconds today - $99 off of ebay. I foresee them getting a lot of wear with some navy chinos this summer.

Given how bluchers outnumber bals these days, even among shoes marketed as dressy, it doesn't seem like the worst thing in the world for AE to bring out some casual bals, thereby keeping that type of construction in play. And it's not like the concept of casual bals is completely unheard of, after all. Saddle shoes are bals. I think all three shoes look great--particularly the Strand-based Elgin. If AE did nothing but crank out the same classic models all the time, they'd ... well, they'd be competing with Alden and have a correspondingly smaller sales volume. I don't see how that would be smart for them or good for the industry.

disagree. these compete with the Alden natty chromexcels, these buyers (trustafarian neo-workwear revivalists) just found out what a blucher/balmoral is 2 months ago on styleforum, and they don't care.

these should sell well, especially of other leathers are added (waxy calf type?).
