People are terrible at recycling - Page 2

They are irresponsible and too dependent on a destructive system that doesn't require them to care. Everyone is responsible for the proper disposal of their consumed goods. My weekly trash fits into 1 grocery bag, everything else is recycled properly.

I think some areas require businesses to have some sort of recycling program. Check into it, having that done makes a huge difference. I have citizens call businesses and demand that they recycle since they are more likely to respond to customers.

Is that what that is? I've been using it as an ashtray.

Lefty, showing SF some love. We can't even recycle plastic bags down here. How fucking sad is that?

They're trying to put a tax on every plastic bag you get at a store here.

Its probably cheaper for them to use one collection and sort it at the waste centre than to have two collection trucks.

When i moved to another town i was shocked that they didnt have a recycling collection and when i looked into it their justificaiton was it is much cheaper to sort it at the waste centre. The cost of an extra bin for every household, an extra truck, driver etc was more than the sorting. Plus recycling needs to be sorted anyway so there wasnt that much extra cost just mixing it all together. As a result they ended up gettign a much better percentage recycled.

But yeh, pretty funny that SF creates an artificial impression of recycling.

I don't recycle anything. All goes in the trash bin.

Three bins here in the East Bay. One for trash, one for compostables (including paper bags and some cardboard), and one for anything that can be recycled.
It's actually pretty simple.

I'm OK about it, but I'm not particularly committed. I usually recycle cardboard at home, and I have a compost bin where I put all my compostable table scraps and paper products. I also recycle cans when I'm at work, and I bring in plastic grocery bags to recycle.

It is compostable, however. One thing my local government does, which I think is great, is that they provide leaf and limb pickup to all residents with no fee-for-service. Then they take all that stuff back to the landfill and make compost with it. Once it's compost, they sell it back to residents. It keeps stuff out of the landfill, makes it easier to get rid of yard waste, and creates a bit of revenue.

Thank you Rush Limbaugh for your constant devotion to oversimplifying, obfuscating and generally spreading misinformation.
