I read your original email as what I suspected it was: trying to get a phone call going because the emails become tedious. I dont think the tone is insulting or offensive, in my opinion.

I'm also not sure why it would matter to you that he spent x amount of money on the shoes. If someone cant reconcile the cost of repair because the value of the shoes is y, I'm not sure why that would matter to the person doing repairs. That should be something that the owner has resolved before deciding on repairs.

Brah, I've written two posts on the subject where I've emphasized in plain english that the $5 difference didn't bother me, it was the $80 for a different welt and to a lesser extent the $40 for a double sole when I've seen him switch welts for free included in his all inclusive price, double sole probably too but I don't spot that as well nor have I really extensively looked at this guy's profile. He was upcharging me because he figured he could. Yeah I told him to "pretend" the welts needed replacement so I could get that charge waived but the reality is they do need to be replaced and no one else is getting charged for it.

I also told Nick as I explained in the thread I needed pictures as examples, I can't do that over the phone. His shit is not always flawless as seen in this thread.

Nick I'll let you resole these bad motherfuckers for your quoted $500 1080 desert storm welt, the $250 quad sole and the "I'm the out of touch prick with no communication skills and wish my keyboard was alphabetized" fee if you let me chuck them through your window instead of put them in your hands

One of my favorite restaurants is up in Spanish Harlem. I also run up there by via the East River. It's slowly changing especially with shops like Target up there now.

You don't have any emails from me where I contested the $5 difference between the website and your email quote, but don't act like I'm the dick because I raised question with you trying to charge me literally double what you're charging everyone else.

I then followed with a picture of the work in post #142? Nick placed a new welt on those along with the JR and the recessed metal toe plates for right around $220. My dad paid for another pair of boots Nick repaired at the same time so I might be off by $5 or so! In any event, you were not going to be ripped off. That is what he charged my dad, too, and he was happy to pay it and very pleased with the results.

PS In the interest of absolute honesty I reviewed my dads email communications with Nick and found the estimate, minus the recessed toe-taps that were requested later. The total, less the recessed metal toe-taps, was $195.

Alright man. Your dad got charged for welts. Thank you. No one else mentioned it which is why I had a reason to be suspicious. I know there's some that have gotten them changed out without charge, just as his website description claims, so it sucks there's not more consistency and bends reasonable fellas like myself out of shape but that's just New York City baby. All joking aside if jolly ol saint Nick n I never patch things up that's understandable, but I know I wasn't wrong to doublecheck on his charges given what I've read on here. It's not fair business to charge someone more just because I made a bad first impression with my naivety asking if I could put trubalance on a pair of wingtips (thought it'd look cool). I can't be the first prospective customer to ask a dumb ass question. If I hadn't read that Alden only lays down the last the shoe originally came with I'd have already gone to them. It's just a standard ass pair of 903's. It's always black on black on black with the standard Aldens and just wanted to get a little level action in the heel and some new white stitching. I guess I'll start harassing Alden about it or ask for Alden harassment success stories in the Alden thread.
