I have a question for anyone who may know. Are B. Nelson and VIP Shoe Restorers the same entity or do they merely share space inside the same shop?

The reason that I ask, is because earlier today I dropped off a pair of shoes for sole and heel replacement. I asked if there's a difference between B. Nelson and VIP, and was told that they are the same thing. However, I was quoted a price of $195 for J.R. soles and rubber sole guards. However, the B. Nelson website lists the same for $160.00 ($125 & $35), which apparently includes shoe trees and the cost of shipping.

How can it be that I was charged $195.00 for resoling and sole guards? I asked the man behind the counter who wrote down my order, but his response was simply that the prices had gone up.

I was then handed a numbered claim stub for my shoes which stated the name as VIP Shoe Restorers.

I am a bit confused. There is a sign in the window stating that the two businesses are affiliated; they share the same physical location and phone number; the outgoing voicemail message states that they are affiliated; and there is only one counter / cash register in the store.

Therefore, how can it be that I was charged so much more than the advertised price?

The bottom line is that I I brought my shoes in because B. Nelson has a great reputation and I want B. Nelson to do my repair for the B. Nelson advertised price.

If it mean's anything....any repair work that comes needed for my boots gets posted right up to Nick. We trust him and his people. Good shine stand to, if you are ever in the neighborhood.

I have always known it to be the same entity. I do know that the price of leather for soles has gone up you you are going to pay more.

+1 on this. Only place I've ever been to that does a saphyr polish shine. I think it's a bit more than the regular shine, $7 or something like that.

Nick is the man. It seems like I always learn something new whenever I drop in and we talk shoes.

I bothered him for a good while last week. He goes out of his way to show you things and explain processes to you and such. Super nice, guy.

I have actually never had anybody else shine my shoes, but the people doing the shining look like they do a good job whenever I am in there. I'll have to give it a go if I can do a Saphir polish.

I picked up a pair that I had resoled with JR soles on Friday, but Nick had already left for the day. I brought a friend along and would have loved it if he had explained what he did to the shoes. I brought in some To Boot shoes that were cement jobs and I think Nick had them redone, but the details of which I'm not exactly sure about, but would love for him to explain if he has some time. I haven't gotten around to taking pictures yet, but will do so when I get a chance.

The JR resole with front and rear rubber taps cost me $126 with no shoe trees.

Also picked up a jar of Saphir light brown cream polish.

Nick was telling me about the shoe shine with the Saphir products and as far as I know they're the only ones around that do it.

I just spoke to Nick regarding my query from yesterday. Excellent customer service. He is a real gentleman, and took the time to explain everything that I wanted to know about my shoe repair. Ultimately, I was charged the correct price. I have used B. Nelson for approximately 3 years (at least 10 shoe repairs). They have always done an excellent job, and I will continue to use them for the foreseeable future.
