Help *#.. find the right smartphone

I've been using the same candybar phone for almost 5 years, and I've decided it's about time for an upgrade. I'm looking for an AT&T phone, strongly considering the Atrix 4G, based on reviews. What are the pros of Android over the iPhone? I'd like to use my phone as a music player with quality earphones, so good sound quality would be a big plus. I don't like Macbooks or ipods very much, and owning an ipod touch for a few months made me realize I like having real buttons for music players. I think the ipod touch is a horrible music player, and I don't want a phone that plays music in a similar fashion.

This is nit-picky, but I like being able to change songs by merely pressing 1 button without turning on the screen, and re-locking it (ipod touch can't do this). I'm not sure if the Atrix can do this, but any phone that can would get serious consideration by me, especially if sound quality is good. I place being able to change songs like this high on the priority list, as I find changing songs to be distracting while doing work. You have to look away, turning the screen on distracts me in my peripheral vision, and I'd rather not deal with that. It seems like phones that do this are non-touch screen phones. The phone needs at least 16 gb, preferably 32 gb with access to microsd. Thanks for reading this, and any help finding the right phone for me would be appreciated. If you think the Atrix 4G is right for me, let me know.

Sounds like you've made the decision on wanting an Atrix 4G.

There are plenty of headphones (or a 3" extension piece) which will control an iPhone. Click once to pause or play, twice to skip, 3 times to skip backward. They'll also control volume. I use one while riding my motorcycle as I can reach down to my left pocket and manipulate it much easier than most other players would (having to find the right button by feel, for example).

Thanks for the suggestion, but I already have a nice pair of earphones. I'd prefer spending extra cash on clothes.

I'm not set on the Atrix, but looking at the specs, it looks to be the best available AT&T phone right now. I don't want to switch to another provider (Verizon) because pretty much all my family/friends have AT&T

Yeah, I'm in the same boat and didn't want to change headphones. Plus, when I'm on a motorcycle reaching for some vague place on my chest isn't really helpful. I bought one of these cables, which is about 3 or 4" long and is then just outside my pocket, so I can reach it while riding. Just a solution if the iPhone fits your other preferences, otherwise good luck with the Atrix. http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Headpho...ref=pd_sim_e_2 http://www.amazon.com/iLuv-iEA15BLK-...f=pd_sim_cps_6

Those look useful. I've since gotten rid of my ipod touch, but I still have my 4th gen ipod that displays in black/white. I replaced the battery (eforcity one for $5, don't really recommend them). I'll buy one of these if the smartphone doesn't work out and use my old ipod.
