The French-made ones were the ones I had. I bought them from Syms, back in the days when Sulka was owned by the Syms family and sent their overstocks there. One of them was my favorite tie ever, and though worn out, I have kept it out of sentiment. They were very good, but I think that high-end tie construction has improved over the years as people have paid more attention and makers have tried to differentiate themselves. Other than the unique stitching in the collar-band area, I can't think of anything that made them any different than a dozen other high end makers' output, and there are several makers who make better stuff today.
