Try not to take it personally that I find your choice of gifts mundane and impersonal. "One size fits all" exists for a reason; it satisfies the masses.

I don't take it personally, I'm not giving you a gift so why the fuck would I care?. It's just that if done right flowers are in no way "one size fits all". I suppose in part it's because I love plants but there is so much variety to be had and so many ways in which flowers are personal.

Oh, and "dead in a week" are part of their beauty. But I guess why that is so is lost on you.

Occasionally I work in social psychology and I recall there was a paper fairly recently in which they found that people most prefer gifts that they ask for rather than gifts that the giver comes up with based on inferences about what the receiver would want. So unless you are convinced you have really excellent theory of mind (which, if you are, you are likely wrong), you might better stick with the former strategy.

Honestly, "thoughtful" gifts are overrated. Go to a department store with her, she will tell you what she wants, although maybe not in as many words. Then go back and buy it. She will be happy.

Or, yeah, what the guy ahead of me said.

That's a bit of an exception

Obviously some jewelry can be deep and meaningful, but it's usually not.
