Propecia advice

I am a 33yr old traveler. I travel around the US for work. I do not have a family doctor or insurance. My hair is thinning pretty bad. I would like to get on propecia or proscar. I know I need a prescription for either drug. I don't want to spend a lot of $ to get a prescription. Should I just find a family doc in my current city and see if he/she would write me a script or should I go right to a specialist? I have read that a couple of people have went to Bosley for their free consultation and got their script from the doctor there. I was wondering if anybody here have gone that route?

I've never gone the Bosley route but my own PCP was more than happy to write one.

You'd have to be insane to buy a hair loss med from a random internet indian pharmacy. It's one thing to buy something you need to take for a month or two, but you're talking about years of taking something that has no GMP quality standards behind it. I'd be less worried about the active ingredient and more about what contaminants could be in it. OP: PCP=primary care provider. Any family doc will probably write it for you. If you're a real cheapskate and enterprising, they may be willing to write you for proscar which is a prostate enlargement medication. That's both covered by insurance and cheap. It's the exact same as propecia but 5x stronger (5mg vs 1mg) so you have to cut it into fifths. The last time I did primary care we had a crew of baldies who worked that scheme to their advantage.

I would like to stay legit and and get a script. I wouldn't mind doing the proscar thing to save money for sure. I'm just worried about finding a PCP (thank you) that's just going to send me to a specialist. Like i said before I have no insurance and would prefer not to spend too much $ or time away from work for multiple doctors appointments. I know it's MPB. It runs in my family. My brother started going bald at 34 and is almost fully bald now at 37. I've been paying attention to my hair and so has my fiancé. It's deffinately MPB.

Age = 30+

Go to your doctor, get a prescritption for Proscar/ Propecia.

If you can afford to dress well, you can afford the proper meds.

wouldn't worry about it, it's well within the scope of primary care

first of all I stated that I'm in a new city and don't have a regular doctor or insurance. Actually, I haven't had a regular doctor in about 10 years.
second, I didn't know the question I asked would imply that I'm well dressed. I save money where I can, and that includes my wardrobe. I wear scrubs for work.

The funny thing is I work in the medical industry and most hospitals I work at the doctors will help me out. The current hospital I'm at is a government hospital (VA) and none of the docs will help me out. It's frustrating because I don't have the slightest idea on how to find the right doctor in the area. I've grown accustom to the physicians at hospitals taking care of me in pro bono. Yes I've been spoiled.

I think I'm going to make an appointment for a free consultation at Bosley. From things I've read on other sites they should be able to write me a script. Hopefully it will work out for me.

if you are worried about spending money to go see a doctor wait till you get a scrip and have to pay for the meds....
propecia is pretty pricey (about $200-300 for a 3 month supply) and insurance doesnt usually cover your vanity....
