Should I go back to my former employer?

I recently bumped into an old co-worker (VP of West Coast Operations) from an old employer(Bank X). I asked him about the company's current situation, they're currently in the approval stage by the Feds from a merger. He told me that everyone there is staying and asked me if I was interested in joining them again. If I had any interest, to call him and inquire further. I didn't work with this particular co-worker because of separate divisions.

The reason I left Bank X was due to whacky co-workers along with an opportunity at a tech start-up(got sold shortly after I started). When I resigned from Bank X, there were lots of resentment against me for leaving. Bank X had to hire 4 individuals to take upon my duties alone. The head of the West Coast division didn't talk to me at all after I turned in my resignation letter. My own reporting supervisor gave me a limp handshake the day I left.

I know that bridges have been burnt, yet I do sort of miss working at that job due to the bank's prestige, along with the wheeling and dealing. I've been thinking about contacting my old Supervisor and Head of West Coast division for a drink after work one of these days to try to amend things if possible.

Knowing how the banking industry is petty and short-sighted. With a shitty job economy right now, would this be a wise move in trying to amend relationships with a former employer or just f*ck it and move on?

I'd say call your ex-co-worker, the VP whom you bumped into and ask him to asee if you can come back first.

Whether you go back or not you should definitely make an effort to rebuild any bridges that may have been burnt.

I don't see this working out the way you'd want it to. Sounds like too many bridges have been burned.

Never hurts to try and rebuild those bridges. Just be cautious that they aren't going to put a happy face on and still dislike you and then try to screw you over in the future.

You never know until you try, you can always act like nothing went wrong when you meet the old colleagues and pretend the split was amicable.

I've done it a few times and it always felt really akward. Different vibe in my experience. I guess I out grew them. Would't recommend it unless it's a huge favor for management or you really are desperate for income.
