Need advice on ordering wine for the first time

Hello, I'm planning to take a coworker (we're both interns) out to dinner and would like to take this opportunity to try wine for the first time. Here is the wine list of the restaurant we'll be going to:

I am guessing that a sweet, fruity wine would be best for us as my coworker is female and I don't like the bitter taste of alcohol. Based on some internet searches, I think that the "sauvignon blanc, sterling, napa, 08" and "pinot grigio, swanson, napa, 08" would be the best candidates. Could someone confirm if this is likely to be true?

I am also aware that one can ask to try a wine before ordering them. Would it be appropriate to ask to try both of these wines? How does that work? We will only be ordering a glass of wine each. Thanks.

Is this for real? Try one out.

Just ask the waiter or sommelier for recommendations when you order.

Some basics: 1. Relax. 2. If you are ordering by the bottle, then you can't ask them to open two so you can pick your favorite. If by the glass, then sure, why not. 3. The question is really what you are going to be eating. If you have literally never had wine, you should ask your server or the sommalier for some suggestions that might go with your meal.

You need to take the wine list from the waiter and flip in on the table while staring into their eyes and say, "Sutter Home Zin. White."
