Halp! Womens' Jewelers Suggestions

I just decided what to get my wife for her birthday this year (it is one of the ones ending an 0). Woohoo!!!

I know NOTHING about women's jewelry, but am envisioning a set of drop earrings in diamond and white gold. My google-fu resulted in some very nice designs out of my price range at deBeers and a heap of designs that I didn't really like from the national chains.

Any suggestions for mid-range jewelers would be MOST welcome. My budget is hopefully under $1k, but definitely no more than that.

Thanks!

I have not tried them myself, and I don't know that the workmanship or design are going to be at the very top tier, but for the diamonds I have basically heard, even from jewelers, that there's not much point in going anywhere other than Blue Nile. You'll get the best prices on no-BS diamonds, buy them by the rating, with no uncertainty about the transaction.

Goddamit Douglas-san I just farkin love you, man!

I'd forgotten all about bluenile since shopping for engagement rings. And I think I get 10% off from them through my teachers' union membership, too!

I would give rnoldh a shout. I think he has mentioned a few times he has some precious metal and stone connections. He is in your area and probably knows a few dudes.
