I am pleased with the customer service. They couldn't fix the boots, but they are going to replace them. I know I will have the same issue with the grommets on the next pair. The grommets are just not right for this type of shoe.
I was going to ask if AE would replace the Bayfields with another shoe like the Malvern, but I decided that would just be inappropriate.

I received the replacement today and they are quite nice. The laces are thick and the insoles are much better. However the grommet issue still remains.
Many of the grommets look like this. Keep in mind I haven't even tried them on.


Much worse than the first 2 pairs I bought. I don't see these grommets staying in place for more than a half dozen wears.

Any advice on what I should do?

SF members buy AE?

Advice: Don't buy crappy/ugly shoes such as AE.

Get back to AE, let them know that the new pair looks even worse than the earlier pairs.

They should take care of you. I don't think it would be unreasonable of you to suggest that you'd prefer to exchange them for a pair of Malverns given the bad experience you've had with the Bayfields. It would also be better for them to keep you as a customer than not take care of you and lose a customer for good.

That really is a bummer. I had a good interaction with AE customer service myself, but honestly, I'm not sure what they would do for you in this situation. It seems obvious that any pair of these boots will have the same issue, as they all have the defect. Perhaps they should offer you a free return and a store credit.

You think they would have noticed that all their bayfield boots are falling apart and made a manufacturing change to fix the issue.

Your solution is to get a refund and join the Alden MTO in the SW&D forum. They are clubbing together for a jumper boot which is basically the same design as the Bayfield, but better.

I know this is what I shoud do. I guess I just don't know how to phrase it without being a terrible customer/guy. They had to make this shoe (Since I am such a rare size) and send it to me by express mail.
I don't want to sound like this:
Hey,
That shoe you made me is worse than the other two, send me a different pair of shoes.

Strange, I have these boots, have worn them a ton, and haven't had this problem at all. They look amazing, better than when I bought them, and have remained in great shape.
