Was she perchance a Californian? Sounds like you were wearing something very close to the classic "California tux"!

Reminds me of one time when I went into a bar on Pacific Coast Highway in upscale Newport Beach to have a beer while my wife was getting some sort of beauty treatment. I was wearing a rather tired navy blazer, some dirt cheap khakis and an inexpensively gotten sports shirt. The barmaid asked me if were going to a wedding!

Wow, I don't think I have ever heard anyone mention the term dinner jacket out in the wild, let alone from some girl. Perhaps there is a silver lining somewhere here.
