Sure it's something to put on your resume and it only costs $50 or so, but is it really worth it if everyone has something similar?

I'm working in finance now and my last job in marketing was two and a half years ago at a small ad firm. Sure everyone, including myself, could do the basics. What they needed was someone who could focus on it for the company's clients and make it their full time job. Take ownership and be the go to expert for the firm. I also know their are a lot of companies that focus on this area and they are looking for people who really understand the ins and outs of it and how to apply their knowledge strategically.

Again, I see it as a small investment of time and money. Even if a lot of people may have the certification, wouldn't it serve you well to have it too? Remember, going out of school you will be competing in this economy with people who have years of real-world working experience. Take every advantage you can.

I'm a finance major so maybe I'm coming from a different perspective but I've done two marketing internships as well.

Learning PS is a very valuable skill, but it's not something that someone wanting to work in Google Analytic's would be expected to have. It depends on what you want to focus on. You can always learn other skills later and change your specialty.

Remember OP indicated he is in school. If this is the case then he won't have a lot of other things on his resume to show his worth in this area. Every little bit helps.

I agree with you that it's cheap and can't hurt. If I were hiring for a jr. level person (which I am, actually), the main benefit in my eyes would be that the person took the initiative to get certified (an indication that they're truly interested in the field and not just applying to every job they come across). It would have little to no effect on my evaluation of their ability level.

Then again, we don't focus only on GA (though we do focus only on analytics).
