Hey Guys, Not sure what would be the right spot to post this, but I just started divvyup.org which offers 500mb and 5gb of bandwidth a month for students, small businesses, and non-profits. You get everything that would except from GoDaddy, Dreamhost, etc and I there are about a dozen websites running on it right now. The space is leased from a large web hosting company, and has lots of documentation. You can check it out more at divvyup.org

it's hard to understand how you're going to sustain this service since you're not charging a fee.

I already host websites that I have designed and developed for clients, so I have space available. Obviously I can't host 10,000 websites, but if I need to buy more space to accomodate people that want free web hosting space, I am willing to do so...

I hope it comes to the point when I have to purchase more space!

I'm reminded of a conversation when I worked for oracle during the internet boom years:

client: we're not going to offer free trading, we're going pay people to trade with us
me: so you're going to lose money on every transaction
client: yes
me: what's your plan, to make up the difference in volume?

anyway, a very generous offer. best of luck with your venture.

Thank you :-) Also, I can do a sub domain for people who don't have a domain name themselves. It will "username.spaceforgrowth.com" If you get a domain name later you can add it yourself...

Sorry guys, but I was under the impression that service I buy space from provides tech support, but they do not, but I am willing to help with any basic issues, but I won't have time to answer a lot of questions. Documentation and video tutorials are provided though...
