Wool pants wear out fairly quickly (piling, etc) It's very hard to justify that kind of outlay. In contrast, a jacket can last you years. Well, that is, until fashion renders it trash.

You mean compared to other materials or compared to jackets? Cotton wears out faster than wool. The only wool trousers that wore quickly for me was a soft wool/cashmere blend. The rest outlive my desire to wear them.

If compared to jackets, then probably yes. But that is a long time horizon.

I always buy standalone trousers in heavier weights (12oz.+) and they last forever.

??? What on earth do you do to them? Trousers do not do that ordinarily.
