What did you do with all of your sneakers?

Surely there are some reformed sneakerheads/hypebeasts here. While I never went into hypebeast style, I was a HUGE sneakerhead, and have ammassed a reasonable collection of kicks I don't wear. What did you do with yours?

Monday morning is recycling day in my 'hood. I sometimes leave 2-4 pairs of sneakers/shoes right on my stoop on Sunday night and by Monday morning, they are gone. I figure that people who come by to gather the cans/bottles to redeem pick them up and use. I have also left bags of clothes on my fence(jeans/shirts/etc) and the same thing happens. People scoop them up.

I was never a sneakerhead like a lot of the other students were/still are. I've never owned vans/chucks, but I'm assuming they get thrown out when the owner thinks the time is right. I used to own 1 pair of shoes until they wore out, then I threw them away after 2+ years of almost daily wearing. I didn't bother donating them, as I used to wear my shoes until they were pretty much unusable. Now that I've upgraded the steez, I haven't needed to throw any shoes away.

If you haven't worn them that much can't you sell them? I sometimes have one pair of sneakers that barely get any use so I either end up tossing them to good will or something like that, giving them to a friend, or if they're in like new condition, selling them.

A very good friend of mine must own 150+ pair of unworn, new in box, rare releases, exclusives, and colorways. (All Nikes - every Jordan, SBs, etc etc etc).

We've debated the merits of these type of sneakers versus a toned down shoe, like Common Projects -- and I think the opinion on his side is, "I buy shoes for $200 retail that will in the not too distant future be worth $400. You buy $400 dollar sneakers that will in the not too distant future be worth $200". (there’s plenty of counter points to the argument...i know).

But I digress..

Anyway, I want to see what he does with these boxes, and boxes....AND BOXES of BNIB sneakers when it comes down to crunch time. Hauling these in a move would be a huge task. They will in the future and do currently require their own room. But when it comes down to sell - it would take a team of people to administer the sales. The haggling, shipping & handling, (bound to be a ton of international, outside of N. America requests), the listings, etc...

So even if he he is able to flip pairs at a relative profit, the amount of time spent performing the aforementioned could negate a huge chunk of margin....from a 'time is money' perspective that is. Honestly, if I had a ton, like my friend, I would 'hire' an unemployed friend to handle the business (all selling and S&H) and give him around 15% (or so) of every sale he conducts (after seller fees, etc).

(edit; and this is in no way some cheap plug, but if anyone is looking for any rare Nikes in a 10.5, let me know and odds are I got you covered..)

That's the thing. I have shoes that I could have sold for $300+ in 2008, that I'd be lucky to get $60 for NIB now.

I'm totally not schooled on how prices are currently on rare Nikes. Generally speaking, have they been depreciating in value? I know there are exceptions, but again, just in general..

They reached some spike in interest (and resale value $$) around 2008 and it's been on the decline since?

all i can say is collecting sneakers is a hobby that you can regain your losses from. not every hobby is like that

I've given sneakers to friends that are my size. The rest (save for a pair of Adidas X Evan Hecox Stan Smiths that have much sentimental value) I actually use what they were originally intended for: basketball, skateboarding, etc. It's funny how I'd trade these technicolor sneakers for a pair of brown captoes or white purcells these days.
