They get dark, but those commercials greatly exaggerate the time it takes to switch back from sunglasses to regular glasses. Maybe it was my strong prescription, but as the lenses aged, they would take up to 10 minutes to transition completely. In that time, you feel like a huge dweeb.

Correct. They take long to become clear when you go indoors. Even when you are indoors, because of mild UV, your lenses will NEVER be totally clear. You know that guy in the office that looks shady? Well, look at his glasses and you'll probably notice that he has a slight tint in his lenses. hahaha....

Also as photochromatic lenses "age" they start to lose their ability to change colors. They won't get as dark, as well they won't become as clear.

Also keep in mind that it will not change colors in the car because of the UV filter on your windshield. (Unless you go with their new Driver Lens: goes from yellow to brown and is used in the car)

Not sure if these have come up yet, but Barton Perreira make incredible, high-quality glasses hand-made in Japan. I just picked up the Derrick model in tortoise and absolutely love them! They're far from cheap, though...

Sorry if this has been answered, but does anybody have a recommendation for a good place to get a solid eyeglasses case? I sat on mine in a cab last week (my glasses were on my face at the time) so I could use a new one.

Drop by any decent optical store and they should be able to get you one under $10. Ask if they have any with their shops name on it and they will probably give you one for less.

Good heads up. I don't check Gilt often anymore and this was good timing. Been looking for a pair and the rectangular ones are similar to a style of OP I tried on a while ago, but were out of my league without insurance since I'm not eligle for frames until next year. These look like a great replacement. My fingers are crossed.
