Anybody here read the Ender's Game series? - Page 3

Card has a difficult time resolving conflict. He tends to write himself into a corner. that's usually when he pulls out some kind of time travel stunt.

Every time I see Children of the Mind, I think of George turner's, Brain Child. Far more satisfying.

I'm with you on this one. They're a bit like the Star Trek movies, about every other book is worth reading, but even so the whole saga is pretty remarkable.

I haven't read any of the Brian Herbert books though. That's too much like sacrilege

It took me at least 3 tries over 10+ years to get into the first book, but when I finally did I read the series straight through.

Start is "Shards of Honor" IIRC Nebula winner that year.. Why, the series? They're well written and fun to read (good plots etc.)

Oddly enough, a few months ago I was out at a bar drinking my face off with my boys who were home on leave, when I bumped into another physicist. We started nerding it up about a range of topics (the kind of topics that caused my Marine Infantry buddies to just walk away shaking their heads heh), and eventually got to sci-fi. When I mentioned that I didn't really care for most fantasy books, the guy ran out to his car, came back, and thrust a book at me. While disclaiming that it was a far cry from Melville and Steinbeck and Yeats, he said "this is the best pulp fantasy [he] had ever read." The book was Game of Thrones. It wasn't 'till I read your post and googled that I knew it was being produced for TV. From the way he spoke, I didn't think he knew, either.

Maybe in a few years, when the show is either cancelled, or has run through all the books, I'll get it on DVD and do a weekend marathon. Just like Lost, and The Sopranos.

Not a huge fan, but I'll say this, Bean is SO much cooler than Wiggin.
