about 30 minutes ago my delivery guy dropped off a half-case of the chavannes. my wine guru insists the best beaujolais he's had so far.

I wonder if they had done this back in November they might have had different results. In my experience you can't find many of the highly touted producers as they have already been snapped up.

i just got the chavannes for about $18 a bottle shipped. but you're right. on the other hand, we haven't done it either, so i can't cast stones.

I guess that is why they focused on the "less-heralded crus." Kind of a an end around I guess.

Also, a number of tasting notes for the '09 Coquelet are showing uneven bretty notes. I don't think I would be buying any of this personally as there are too many other offerings still left from '09 out there.

the interesting thing, and i'm trying to get a writer to hit this, is that beaujolais is having this miracle vintage in the midst of the worst economic downturn that region has seen since wwII. in 2009, as these grapes were being harvested, there were actual riots in the region because there was such a glut of wine that grape prices tanked. (this is my recollection, unreinforced by taking the time to look things up ... i might be a year or two off, but the gist is correct).

Sounds like a great story if the years line up.
