my wife comes from a very comfortable, but more importantly, very well placed socially, family from latin america. I really come from the scum of the earth. I don't think that her family was all that happy about it. but, she (and all her family, including her mother and her uncles), were pretty much raised not to be able to make a living, or wash dishes or cook or anything. then the family lost their money. so I make much more than my wife could. but if we ever need to have dinner with a south american president, she has that covered. I also have to say that, of all the dozen or so cousins, she probably the only one that has been able to learn how to function in a manner that we, in the US, would consider adult - manage a budget, cook, change diapers, hold a job. but they all speak spanish very well, and can talk about Cervantes.
