Tanning with red/pink skin undertones

Hey folks, got a question on tanning.

I used to get dark dark dark dark bronze when I was younger kid. I haven't spent a whole ton of time in the sun for about 3 years now, and for some reason it's just not happening right now. I've been easing my way back in to the sun, but instead of it getting tan, it's just going from white to red/pinkish. It's not a sunburn. I know this for a fact. It's definitely not tan looking either. Is there any way to fix this? Any dermatologists that can explain how or link an article to how this works? I've been tan. It's just not happening now.

Humor him. Maybe it's a sun rash. If it's just on part of the face, maybe it's rosacea. Aside from sun avoidance, it will be hard to treat an unknown problem. Also, medication could be increasing sun sensitivity.
