Question on tipping for valet at a hotel stay

Hi all,
I have a question on tipping. I will be staying at a hotel that only offers valet parking. I will be coming and going during the day. Should I tip the valet EVERYTIME they get the car? If I come and leave several times a day that can get kind of ridiculous in my opinion.

The question then is when and how mush is it customary to tip a valet at a hotel that only offers valet parking?

Thanks in advance.

I always thought it was smartest to tip the valet the first time they go park your car. That way, they're happy about it. Depending on how much you like your car, tip accordingly.

I take cabs. They often stink, and you may get killed enroute to your destination, but for me it's easier. Naturally, you have to tip the doorman, if he gets you a cab . . . I usually give him a dollar, sometimes two. And, then you have to tip the cab driver . . . that varies for me, depending on performance.

In short, yes and yes. A greenback is fine. However, if you're going to be in and out several times during the day ask them to leave the car out front.
