This should be fun.

Nothing is able to consistently move me like Chopin's Ballade No. 1 in G Minor, Op. 23. The climax is pure majesty.

Russian Sailor's Dance, by Gliere. A compact, whirling dervish of color and sound.

Ravel's "Daphnis Et Chloe," the complete ballet. I will say I'm partial to the second suite but the entire piece is a work of art.

Vivaldi, Winter
Bach, Toccata und Fuga in R minor.
Chopin played by Vladimir Horovitz.

Well as far as Clasical Style goes I really dig Shingeru Umebayashi and Peer Raben. Actually those two composers are the only two I listen to on a semiregular basis as they were on the soundtrack to 2046. I bought the movie about a year and a half ago, before it got press here in the states. I really liked the score so I downloaded the soundtrack.

I am partial to Baroque period music and never tire of the classics:

Albinoni: Adagio in G minor

Pachelbel: Canon in D major

Vivaldi: Four seasons (Spring and winter but each has its own mood)

Also, Ravel's Bolero

Another difficult question with the same problem of the others asking for a favorite. I love a lot of classical pieces. Two not mentioned so far:

Mozart's clarinet 5-tet
Brahms's clarinet 5-tet

I prefer Zappa's rendering. The others I'd hold with too.

Also at the mo. Tchaikovsky's violin concerto in D. And the Choral Symphony, Mr Beethoven; quite long and gradually builds and builds with the well known climax. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh......................
