This thread is for posting images that represent those things that give you pause, or that make your day to day enjoyable, or that you just think are cool. Please no cars, graffiti, or semi-nude celebrities. This is otherwise pretty open ended. I will start (captions optional): Union and Confederate soldiers at the 75th anniversary of Gettysburg Autochrome of a couple, 1910 My kitchen, this morning.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I love old photos. I'm a history buff, and get a huge thrill from seeing old artifacts and images. It's amazing to think how similar, and yet different, life once was.

This is one, not historic, but definitely cool. It's from National Geographic, and of Mexico City. I'm hoping it works, and for some reason, I've been failing quite handily when it comes to posting images as of late:

I love that pic, the meeting of the last survivors of the N vs S in something like 67 or 76. funny note is one of the souther guys started hooting during the shaking and its the only recording of the southern battle cry... you'll see it mentioned in quite a few documentaries and whoever the historian will attempt to mimic it for the audience, funny because heres some stuffy scolar trying to imitate the noise of a 96yo man.... sorry had to add that.

if I may add a photo of my own.

These pics won't mean much to many people but it means a great deal to me. This is Bill Millin, circa WWII: Here are those very same pipes, now enshrined at the Pegasus Bridge Museum: Here is Bill Millin on the beaches of Normandy as an old man: Now, why the hub-bub? After WWI, and the casualty rates of pipers, it was against British military rules for a piper to lead the troops into battle as was the Scottish custom. On D-Day, Lord Lovatt commanded Bill to march onto the beach, in full regalia, and pipe the troops in. Millin reminded the famous Lord it was against the rules. Reputedly, Lovat replied those rules were English and they were after all, Scottish. Millin marched back and forth on the beach on D-Day and roused the troops while he withstood withering fire. Oh, forgot to mention, The Longest Day. He is the piper portrayed in the movie.

My trip to Big Bend. Sunrise at Santa Elena Canyon, along the Rio Grande. The Chihuahuan Desert desert from the Chisos Mountains. View from Emory Peak, the highest point of elevation in the park at 7825 ft.

This was taken 2 blocks from my house
Long story shot, biking used to be my escape/hobby then this past July I was in a bad accident which prohibited me from riding. About a month after that I bought a used camera for cheap and that has been my hobby since.
Here's one of my favorite shots as of late.

Heres a link to some of my other pics if you wanna check em out.

you should probably clarify "no kids" in the OP or people (like me) will shit up the thread with their offspring.

Thanks... I love huge shots like that, and download every one I can find. Here's one of my new favs, just came across it a couple days ago:

That's Chicago.... and that picture just makes me want to live there. (Obv. not quite the same at street level...)

That's a little gritty though, so here's a cheerful pic of amazing tulip fields:
