My OneBoot, by DWFII (Updated w/ Visit to DW) - Page 7

DW kindly allowed me to visit him in his workshop about a week ago, so I took the boots back to where they were born to meet their maker:

AppleMark

He inspected them top to bottom, inside and out:

We discussed how they were doing after about 2.5 years of about once a week wear:

I'll post more pics here later and I'll be posting others of his shop and some cowboy boots in the cowboy boot thread, starting here.

Thanks guys. Here's some more pics:

Crock for Spoo:

And maybe my favorite, a pair of really well-worn rawhide mallets. You have to know what a rawhide mallet looks like new or even after years of use by a hobbyist to appreciate how much use these must've seen over the years:

Such a pleasure and a privilege to spend some time with DW. He tolerated me for over two hours. The problem is that now I really want to do the three week class with him. Maybe next summer...

Thanks for bumping this - would otherwise have missed a great thread!

Love emptym's OneBoot, also like his OneShoe.

^ I agree w/ your liking and loving, B. Maybe someday I'll ask DW to do a version of the oneshoe. A one-piece chelsea is next though!

I've been thinking about getting a pair of Chelsea boots soon too. What color are you thinking of M? I imagine black?

I keep hemming and hawing on whether or not the style really suits me, but I guess you never know until you try. There are some die-hard enthusiasts for them though.

Bespoke OneShoe.  :slayer:

In black shell cordovan or calf?

B, definitely calf. Btw, how do you like the ones you got?

D, I went w/ tan water buffalo. I don't really own a lot of black (the oneboot, oneshoe, Alden plain captoes, AS suede and cracked Nettletons). It's just that if I had to have just one shoe and one boot, they'd be black.

I agree about the style. Not sure it's for me too and I wonder about the durability of the elastic. But I love loafers for the convenience of being able to slip them on. So I'm hoping these will be similar. At first I was thinking of another chukka, but I have been wanting to try a chelsea. DW makes some beautiful, very shapely ones. And when I asked him for his favorite style of boots, he said he'd really been loving the chelseas he'd made for himself. Part of why I've been a fan of chukkas/George boots is that I wanted ankle protection in a motorcycle fall. But w/ the baby, I've been planning to give up the motorcycle.

These G&G ones of Teddieriley are among the best I've seen:

I love them.

Somewhat heretical in the UK, but as you say I love the convenience of a slip-on.

Strangely, tho', I dislike the high slip-ons you see with brogue-ing and the visible elastic gusset (although I like half-brogue oxfords).

The OneShoe is perfect - neat and simple, but considerably smarter than a penny loafer.

I was fiscally irresponsible in the end, and went for the Fosters Alvie!
