did not have to trim, and did not get scrunched. might just be the angle of the pic/placement of items on each other.

So...my 1/2 size down in the Gable experiment appears to have failed miserably.  Tried them on for a second time in my office today and it's immediately apparent that they are too small...not sure what was going on the other day at Barney's.  Anyway, does anyone here want them at cost before I return them?  No abnormal creasing, no sole wear, etc., only tried on twice indoors and not walked in very much at that.  Purchased for $489 ($532 with tax).  Box/shoe marked 8 1/2 E on the TG83, has shoe bags, cloth, etc. plus extra laces that were in the box originally.

I picked up a pair of the Westbury's in 10UK/10.5US, but on the fence about keeping them since I've been buying a ton of shoes lately. If anyone is interested, I'll let them go at cost. ($539 including tax plus shipping and fees)

+1. I'd rather pay the extra money for MTO and get what I like and most important, FIT. Not captive to last minute sales unless I am familiar with brand fit. G&G RTW is still developing and ironing out sizes and lasts.

If you usually spend £300 - £400 on RTW then the G&G on sale is worth a punt. If it doesn't fit you will not have any problems recouping your loss.

For all you G&G shoe collectors that go on the MTO route, why not go bespoke?  It's less than 3 pairs of MTO price for a pair of shoes that are made to your design and fit specification with much greater construction.

Have to agree with SS. $500 is more than I'd be willing to pay for something that I would then need to add an insole to in order to assure proper fit. I tried this with a pair of EGs once - while the fit was better, my main issue was that the shoe still looked too big for my foot.

I didn't realize what a clusterfuck the sizing would be, but should have guessed. I only figured out the sizing on the Phillip II because the floor model had 9E written inside the shoe.

That being said, I still thought the Lobbs were a better deal even before the extent of this sizing issue became clear.
