if its really that beneficial, why do most bespoke shoe makers uses hinged trees? just curious.
understood, i'm talking about lasted/custom made trees. i have only one pair of hinged trees. vintage lobb bespoke. probably the finest way to treat your shoes and the finest i ever handled in regards of trees. high class. thanks to spoo to make it happen. ps: saint crispin's are in the same league. i just don't own them... my default are the three piece. imo, a step beyond the hinged. disadvantage: weight. to heavy for airplane travelling. not lasted: i use springloaded in loafers, trainers, sneakers. not in my dress shoes. let alone the noise is not appropriate for a fine pair of shoes. actually, i'm a tree maniac. i have more trees than pairs of shoes and i have a sweet spot for vintage trees, which i have than adjusted by my tree maker mr. kalman berta.

I am not offering an opinion on which is better, but I suspect that hinged trees are easier to make...and the hardware is relatively commonplace.

...but sprung is better 1. applies more stretching force = good esp for cordo 2. easier to insert n less likely to damage top of counter

not on raining on your parade. i solely shared my personal experience.

imo point two is negligible.

I've never owned hinged or 3-piece trees before, but the G&G trees are probably the nicest spring-loaded trees I've ever owned. They are lasted, and the springs are silent.

excellent.

actually, you didn't understand what i wrote. it's obvious looking at the bolded part. so again: i use non lasted trees for loafers, trainers, etc.

...and, what's much more important. you never handled the other two. so what?

Actually, I have handled bespoke Lobb trees as well as St. Crispin trees. They are really nice. I like the finish better on the G&G trees, but the design on the bespoke Lobb and St. Crispin trees is superior, IMO, since I do prefer hinged trees to spring trees when given a choice.

woe.is.me, iyorito, great pics. thanks!

i cant figure out what I dont like about the monk straps. initially I was worried about the strap but it looks fine. i think i just prefer the cleaner, simpler look of the JL William

IDK, I think these new ones are shoes I would best appreciate on others, but I can't see myself wearing them.

Someone hand me a paddle. I need to smack some sense back into Spoo - or at least check that he's still Spoo.

Call me crazy, I just think there is one element too many in each of these.
