Gaziano & Girling Appreciation & Shoe Appreciation Thread (including reviews, purchases, pictures, etc...) - Page 1317

Yup, exactly as you see pictured.  Just the emblem thing I'm willing to be flexible around (I just wanted a clean look and I hate cleaning polish out of the holes)

GMTO details:

Walkton, no emblem
Deco last - E width
Black pig skin calf with vintage rioja calf
Rioja lining (or let them choose)
Oak bark (colored?)

Toe tips?

How about doing this with black alligator instead of pigskin?

And I think the model Astaire is the Walkton w/o emblem.

There, you went and did it.  That was going to be my original idea (to substitute black alligator/croc for the pigskin).  I will inquire about that as well.

And thanks for pointing out the Astaire

I'll bet the up charge for gator is absurd

I thought pig skin was bespoke only?

Would love to know the prices before hand.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what makes pigskin so desirable here? I did not know that they could actually be used to make shoes

The surcharge for pig skin is reasonable, about $200.

Yes, I think a make up like this would probably be well north of $2500.

Yes, I would think around 2000 GBP.

A lot of money for sure, but you would get something truly unique and spectaculair.

I already have a few pairs similar to this and they are brilliant.

Thanks for the reply Leaves!  How many people would be needed to fill a GMTO?

Believe it's 6 of the same width. I'd def be interested in a E-width deco last Walkton spectator, but not particularly keen on exotics or anything with too much texture e.g. kudu. The v rioja calf/black pigskin isn't bad, but that's about as outlandish a combo as I'd be willing go to.

I'm interested (love spectators), but on the fence about this one. I'm concerned that the Vintage Rioja may not contrast with the black adequately (I'm guessing that the pictures of this example have a lot of light on the shoes, brightening up the darkness of the Rioja). My Rioja and Burgundy Gaziano & Girlings are very dark, and look great on their own. Would there be a way for G&G to "lighten" the Rioja? Just my input.

If I go for it, I'm with grc1 - pigskin is fine, alligator/crocodile is too textured for my choice of footwear!

Yes, I would like the contrast as well.  So a preliminary interest... we have roughly 5: me, TtownMD, daizawaguy, grc1, and yourself

6 consecutive. Black Pig/Rioja is gaining traction - which last are you thinking about?

I hate when GMTOs go that I have zero interest in. Lol. Feels like a lost opportunity.
