Quick question for my G&G learned colleagues: What can't I wear vintage rioja with? It would seem to be really versatile, am I wrong?

You would be right. Probably one of the most versatile colors. I guess it might not be optimal with lighter shades of khakis... but still appropriate.

i find the rioja quite formal a tone and i dont think i could wear with light tones but it depnds on your own style

how versatile would you sat the vintage oak is, and what colors would you say it works well with?

Rioja is essentially burgundy and depending on what particular shoe or boot you have it can be more or less dressy, e.g., Alden no. 8 shells go with khakis very well. I had a pair of Arran's in Vintage Rioja and they looked good with about anything that I'd wear with burgundy, I thought. A dress style shoe would limit the use, I think, due more to the shoe style and not the color.
