Gaziano & Girling Appreciation & Shoe Appreciation Thread (including reviews, purchases, pictures, etc...) - Page 1066

Certainly wasn't trying to evoke anything - once again DWGII has taken what was said out of context and I was replying to dddrees who thought I was criticising GYW, which I was not.

For my own part I apologise to DWGII for mentiontioning him, that was a lack of thought on my part, and as we have quite a difference in opinions on certain things, it was wrong of me single him out without expecting him to respond.

Whilst I am very interested in the things DWGII says and the knowledge he brings to this forum for free, I am getting tired with the whole GYW thing.

As I have stated, whether they be hand or GYW shoes, the appearance of the shoe is important.

For the record and for clarrty's sake.

1 - I have nothing bad to say about GYW shoes, I have worn them all my life without a problem

2 - I do not have any knowledge base to enable me to have any factual based comments on the advantage of one over the other.

3 - As said previously by another member in this thread, 90% of the shoes that give me pleasure when I look at them on the interweb, are stamped with the name Gaziano and Girling.

I likewise agree that I would like to get back to discussing G&G - and if DWGII feels the need to discuss things further I am quite happy to do so if he wishes to PM me rather than expounding his vast wealth of knowledge in the incorrect thread - please and thank you

Does G&G use gemming in their RTW shoes? Doesn't that make them pretend shoes??

You don't even read what you post yourownself do you? It's all babble coming from you..

Go back and read post #15948 and post #15951. Those are yours...like it or not you own them. You were provoking and you did call my name explicitly...and with a patently false accusation that I had pilloried you.

That's the context...I didn't initiate it I didn't post it. You did.

You may be getting tired of talking about GYW but neither you nor anyone else save the moderators control which direction the discussion will take or what others have to say, and in your case you don't even have control of what you, yourself, say.

Whatever you say DWFII - I appologised to you, I have asked you to PM if you have a problem so we can discuss it and have pointed out this is the G&G thread.

I have done all that I feel I can do.

I would like to go back to discussing G&G if you so please. Many thanks.

The only one who ever said they were pretend shoes is you or people like you. I never did..

I have had several people, including a moderator, point out that until I came on board most people here on SF didn't know what gemming was, didn't know that GY methods of making shoes was far different than the methods used in the shoes that their grandfathers wore. I don't know whether that's true or not and I regret being the messenger. Many here have wished to shoot me rather than confront the reality.

The slick advertising and hype that even ...perhaps esp. ...the big names use to give the impression that GY welted shoes somehow continue and honour Traditional quality--that is indeed pretense. It's false advertising..outright lies even...and it was documented in depth by @MONEYWELLSPENT (not auld Dee-Dub) in another thread:Here

One major cachet brand even claimed that their shoes (all GYW, AFAIK) were the "best made shoes in England." It's was a lie. An outright lie. And people bought into it. They've since revamped their website and changed that (from embarrassment?) but I have a pdf rendition of that opening page from that site.

If you slyly suggest and allow people to believe that you are continuing in hallowed Traditions and making the best quality shoes that can be made...it's pretense. It's a lie. Period. Esp. when you do everything in your power (including throwing mountains of cash into hyping the product and those lies) to make your shoes look like HW.

Tell your customers what they are really getting. Do a video on the construction techniques that highlights the canvas and cement. Get real. Be honest.

Or it's pretense.

It's a simple formula for you and any other person in this thread.... if you don't want to talk about GY welting or the pro and cons of that technique, then don't. You can walk and chew gum at the same time, can't you?

And in this case, you've got a iron-clad excuse not to opine one way or the other on the merits of GY or whether HW is an upgrade or not.

Forum are like fractals...they break down into smaller and smaller renditions of themselves--a thread can have a number of different discussions going on at the same time...no harm no foul.

And just because I'm a little distracted this morning, point me to that apology, won't you? Just so I can offer a corresponding absolution.

Late breaking news!!

Ah!! got it--the old switcher-roo, eh? The rewrite of history. Well good enough, better an after-thought than no thought at all.

Apology accepted. Go forth and sin no more. rolleyes.gif

I think the gable would look great in espresso calf too as that is very dark brown color.
Anyways black is cool too. I think someone has gable in black hatch grain.

Well, I suspect that's always what happens when people jump in with snark-y comments about subjects they know little or nothing about--they reveal a bit about their character. Sometimes that's all anyone has to know.
