The current G&G shoes I have is Carlyle with MH71 last in size 6.5 UK. What I like about G&G that I can't find in other shoes so far are the bottom arch support and the contour of the outer foot. It fits so well for my feet. Of course, the leather is superior to other shoes I have but I understand that comes at a price.

So far I tried the following shoes.

C&J shoes - Tetbury, Hallam - they don't have bottom arch support and the contour of the outer foot like G&G. The shoes show too much creases because my feet don't fill in the shoes very well.

Magnanni - I have a size 7 and it runs a bit big. I would need to use an insole for it to fit and for the bottom support. Not high quality and the leather is thin.

Sutor Mantellassi - boot size 7 and it run a bit big on the heel. No much arch support like G&G shoes.

My question is what are other brands that have a similar fit like G&G shoes but cheaper. I don't want to spend that much of money on shoes for daily wear. Since this thread shows a lot of people are wearing G&G shoes. Therefore, I would hope people have some brand suggestions for me to try.

Thanks in advance guys!

Truthfully it is because each fine shoe maker has their own proprietary lasts. They will all fit differently but generally the higher end brands have the leather pulled tighter around a more shapely last. That is one of the major parts involved in the higher cost. I find that EG can have some too but any of the brands that are "shapely" are high priced. You also could get some bespoke or MTM for similar and sometimes lower cost if you are willing to cut down on quality of the shoe.

Sorry for the bad news but that is what GG is known for.

Not quite - I had Neus at the Saville Row store patina them to a darker blue. You can see the comparison below (left is the patina'd version, right is the original hue of their stock model. I love the midnight blue, but I think the darker version works more easily with business attire - it still shouts, just not as loudly smile.gif:

What colour are your Fairbank's - they look amazing!

Have they had a patina too?

Yes, they've also been subjected to the patina treatment - they were originally vintage maple, which was rather bland.

And for my next trick - package from Nick at BE arrived at work this morning biggrin.gif - last of the old-school St James IIs, in vintage cherry calf with red lining on the deco last.

^ Very, very nice.

I like the red lining that you went for too.

I would likely be in for this. Lafeur and I have been discussing this for a while although I am not sure he is interested in Chestnut.

I agree. It works so well between that and the vintage cherry!
