I noticed in your pic of the Arran, it looks like boot trees were being used. I kind of hoped that general mto's would allow for this option.

Yes back in old days G&G offered 3-piece boot trees for RTW models. These were discontinued a few years ago.

Both of these are correct.

Long gone are the days of the legendary 3 piece boot tree for your MTO order. Now they have also taken the mahagony finish option away as well. Not a necessary step I suppose, but I liked it.

Further more, GG will consolidate all tree toe shapes to MH71 last going forward (so I was told). If GG says all lasts are virtually the same, except for the toe, I suppose I'm ok with this as well.

Considering GG is one of the last RTW/MTO makers that still bothers to make lasted trees, maybe some credit is due on my part. As long as they keep making my trees at my 10.5 G width size, I suppose I'll keep paying the considerable amount they charge for them...

Damn... really? I like the mahogany finish and it would have been great if they continued with the option for boot trees for MTOs. I can understand that streamlining the last of the shoe trees is meant to cut costs but why not keep the mahogany finish?

We tried to get a GMTO together for Boot Trees and were shot down by G&G. I would be willing to try again, these things are amazing.

I recall G&G saying that they were reserving boot trees for bespoke only.

Wait. Did G&G jack up their bespoke pricing or that's the price for Justin's pair? Cos that price is getting JLdiculous.

£4,500 more expensive than JL St James (shoes + trees), and JL SJ charges like £700 for trees. And that is about JLP prices.

G&G is £4000 inc UK VAT(20%).

I have had the pleasure in seeing and handling these shoes. The sample models I saw were wonderful. I didn't ask the price, I can't afford bespoke so what's the point, but I can imagine this model being slightly more expensive due to the work involved in getting these straps to fit, there seems to be quite a complexity in the screw system underneath and there seems to be some additional work needed shaping the sole to make sure the strap does not hit and scrape on the floor.

The straps are not a simple strap either. These also have to be bespoke and are individual to the customer. Otherwise they will not sit on n the foot and tighten the shoe properly.

On another not on the boot trees I wish they would bring them back. I cannot easily get a G&G lasted tree in them without taking all of the laces out and then still a struggle. I ended up buying a cheaper cedar tree half a size smaller. Seems to fit pretty well now.

I know right? The boot trees were so much more convenient. I struggled getting my Gg lasted normal ones into the Wigmores.
