Basically the color is supposed to come out very light brown like pine but came out dark brown like oak. I had been very particular about this and had emphasized this part numerous times, so not sure where the miss is. They were initially defensive about it until I resent an email confirming and attaching the color I had wanted. They said they will take a look at what can be done during the polishing stage.

I suggested to go ahead but said that I will not take anything less / different than what was ordered. If we're talking about a couple hundred quids I would have let it go, however, for the price of a deco MTO I expect nothing less than perfection, period!

Yes, I would not be happy either, I do not see why you should accept anything that far off, is this your first MTO with them?

I'm on your side my friend. They have no excuse and it's very poor form and unprofessional to blame the customer for their own incompetence.

Nope - my third

My MTO boots from G&G were said to come with a 4-month delivery time, though these reports of closer to 12 months delivery don't get my hopes up. What happened to quality and service?

"Watchu talkin' 'bout, G&G?!"

And these were ordered direct through them or via that shop someone mentioned, if this was done via a reseller do you think this might be a reseller issue?

Previous MTOs were done within 4 months and with perfection, however.  They may have been very busy with the new factory & the new store.  To be honest - this is my last MTO with them (I had ordered this prior to the price increase.)  Now with the Japanese yen depreciating so much (their shoes so beautiful and clinical clean) and with new shoemakers coming up with attractive pricing (such as Bestetti that offers trial shoes or Jan Kielman offering bespoke at less than half the price) - I think there are so many more attractive options on the table.  I would not want to do another GG MTO.

A lot of timeline differences indeed. Depending on the retailer, I have been told 6 months for completion, while others have said 4 months for completion. I wonder if some vendors have priority compared to others?

Either way, i do agree there are plenty of options out there, but i do have room for one more GG MTO this year. What can i say, i have a hard time with fit, and GG does it for me...

I'm totally biased because I am the same size as you and like the look of them, so you should get rid of them wink.gif.

But on a serious note I have a few pairs of shoes that are very similar. For me it depends on the style. If it is a staple shoe in a basic color that I see myself wearing in a few years I will keep it ( I have two pairs of black loafers sitting in my closet unworn). I figure at worst I put it in the box and will take them out when my current pair finally cannot be resoled any longer or is no longer fit for formal wear. Given the increase in the cost of these shoes year over year it's actually not a bad thing to do financially speaking.
Thus your best option is probably to plan to keep them, but keep them boxed and try to sell them a little over what you paid for the time being. If they don't sell for that price you keep them indefinitely.
Such a logical throught process... anything that lines up with "keep" seems to sound good.

My thoughts are that G&G may have negatively affected a relationship with a customer with what happened, but I do not think G&G (or any other outfit that falls in the same situation) has any financial responsibility to compensate. I assume a refund is expected if a product cannot be presented; however, anything more as compensation appears to be presumptuous.

I'm sure bespoke can address any fit issues but it is definitely hard to severe relationships with makers when you know they produce a good fitting MTO last. Good luck with the next one JS... Hove or Oakham? smile.gif

Bespoke is definitely part of my future plans. At the moment i would like to collect a good rotation of well fitting MTO shoes.

A pair of Hoves are already in the making icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif , so my next pair will more likely be the Oakham. I'm waiting for Nick to announce some GMTO projects before i decide to venture on this MTO by myself. So we'll see...

I might have frased that poorly, was in a bit of a rush. What I meant was that G&G should either offer a refund or a substantial discount on this faulty pair, if the customer wishes to keep them, as a sign of good faith and in interest of preserving the customer relationship.
