I am 99% sure that shock absorber thingy in there is what is causing my squeaks.

If you take it out of there, please report back, because even though I am no fan of synthetic "shock absorbers," I am about 90% sure your "creaking" is not related to the shock absorber.

"Creaking" is an old, old problem for shoemakers...one that we have struggled with and analyzed and eventually devised answers for. It is almost always leather (under pressure) rubbing against leather.

My guess it is in the heel stack.

Perhaps you can take some comfort in the fact that once upon a time "creaking" was "desirable."

I have always heard that and supported that idea, until I came across these shoes. It is really bizzare. For example, if I am sitting at my desk with my feet planted flat in front of me and I ever so slightly, like just barely flex the tibialis muscles to roll back on my heels they will squeak and I can actually feel, in my heels, the squishing. It blows my mind how sensitive it is to barely any motion or pressure.

If there is an irregularity in the individual lifts that comprise the heel stack or a place where there is the slightest hollow between the lifts and no glue/cement, the heel could creak with the slightest movement.

That said, who knows what the shock absorber is made of...some new material that no one has heard of, should not be used in any case, and creaks like crazy. Pull it out and see if it makes a difference.

Third vote for MH71. It's amazing how two very similar shoes built on two different lasts can look so different. They remind me of the Hayes which is built on the TG73. I think I prefer the shape of the MH71 over TG73

Here is a ****** pic of my Hayes on the TG73. I got an extended medallion, (like that is on the Grant) however. Can you hear them squeaking?

I don't understand that. I feel like the only difference is the very tippy tip of the shoe?
