For the first time I am beginning to wonder if the shoes are really worth the price asked - I feel that costs are becoming runaway train.

I'm a newcomer with only a single pair of MTOs on order and due in January (Grant in vintage oak on TG73) so I don't really have an informed opinion yet but from all my reading and following forums I would quite like to see G&G move further up the price scale although that isn't mutually exclusive with maintaining the current MTO offering. What I'm thinking of is to add additional lasts to the Deco "concept" (for want of a better term), i.e. apply the additional hand finishing and skin selection used for the Decos to other lasts that are less aggressive than the Deco last.

My tastes are reasonably conservative and I hope that the minor tweaks to the fit specified for my MTO Grants will give me a very good or even near-perfect fit so, if the fit works out, I'll find it hard to justify full bespoke. I do however lust after even finer waists and what I presume is the even higher quality that comes with hand finished waists and soles and hand lasted uppers (which, according to the G&G Deco site, is what one gets with the Deco range). If there were a similar range of last options at the Deco price/quality point as there are at the other MTO price/quality point then I would have no compunction in building my collection around the Deco price point. Once one factors in the inclusion of lasted shoe trees with the Deco range vs needing to buy them separately for non-Deco MTO the price premium, although clearly significant, isn't as much as it appears at first glance.

This may be your best post ever.

you're welcome.

imo, import tax legislation doesn't specifically apply to G&G. agreed, it might be a pity, if you're not allowed to choose the carrier and have to stick to their "rules".

My first G&G's - Cambridge in DG70 vintage rioja MTO came from Nick last week; liked them so much I got the vintage chestnut delivered this morning.
