Nice/good/great things about the are in which you live/work

I have been complaining about the lack of style and men's clothing where I live and someone said at least you don't live... It made me think of why I live where I do and what are the good things that I do have. So, please post things you like about where you live/work.

I live in norther NM where we have incredible views of the mountains which are a short drive away. I enjoy skiing within an hour of my house and we have very nice golf courses for less than $75 also within an hour drive. I just ate sushi 10 minutes from the office where they give me a lot of good sushi for the money, it isn't all about presentation. I have little to no traffic in my commute making it easy to live 40 minutes/40 miles away from my office. I have 5.5 acres of land with lots of privacy. There are plenty of really good restaurants within 15 minutes of my house. We have the best chili around here in NM which you acquire a taste for to appreciate. So, it's not such a bad place to live.


My favorite private course which I try to play 3-4 times a year.



Overlook the dead trees as we had a bark beetle infestation that killed a lot of trees. I enjoy the views of the distant mountains and the space between my neighbors and me.

Good thread idea. There are pretty staircase walking streets all over the hill I live on. Some are very hidden, and the neighborhood is full of overgrown foliage, modernist homes, and stone. It is quiet, despite being in the center of Los Angeles. There is also a nice bridge: And nice views:

Surprised to see a lot of views but hardly any comments. I was hoping for more shares so we could all see what is great about your area. This thread was also inspired buy someone asking about cost of living in a certain area and I thought that there is more to consider, such as.... Please post what you like about your area. Thanks!

Low cost of living is one major thing that that makes my area attractive to a lot of people. Other than that, easy access to mountains and desert backcountry and wilderness areas. If you want to live 40 miles away you'll have a 40 minute commute like your location in NM, but you can also have 5 minute commute.

I moved from New York to Denver a few years ago. I'm a foodie, and though I miss the sheer number of great innovative restaurants in NYC, I'm thrilled to find there's a surprisingly wide selection here. And the innovations that chefs are doing in Denver are really marvelous. Same is true with the bars and lounges.

I also love the complete lack of humidity. To me, this is the promised land, climate-wise.

I also dig the competent, fairly non-partisan government and low taxes.

I also enjoy having daily non-stops to FRA and LHR.

Whenever I go back to New York now I feel glad that I got out. A lot of my family is still there and I shudder whenever they tell their "why the hell did I stay here?" stories.

No offense to NY. There's no place like it. But the thought of living there again stresses the hell out of me.

I am with you, as I have lived in the SW and West all of my adult life. I love Southern California but the crowds and cost of living was too much for me. NM is kind of boring to some but for my lifestyle it is fine. I am also only 5 hours from Denver and I visit 2-3 times per year. I attended CU in Boulder and love that place. Maybe you have to live somewhere for a little while to really appreciate it.
