In NY on business today and need a pair of jeans. Looking or slim-fit, straight legged jeans (33 waist plus or minus one inch depending upon the make and model and 32 length). Very dark indigo preferred and I don't want to buy jeans that have that artificial dstressed look. Money no real object but I don't want to blow dough just for the sake of it. If the extra money buys me a really superior-fitting jean, then fine.

I know little about jeans (have no idea how Diesel differs from APC, etc.). So where should I go?

Head to Soho and go to Blue in Green and APC. They're 5 min away from each other.

Self Edge and Blue In Green (BiG) are really the only two options in this arena. No need to mess around with all that other nonsense.

there are a ton. it really depends on what your after. if you want the best japanese denim w/o question blue in green and 45 rpm are going to have the best japanese made selvage denim (from $200 - $1,500 a pair). in nyc you have all the designer denim as well. if your into that i would check out the dior homme store in midtown or the masion martin margiela store in the west village. you will be able to find some really nice denim in the $400+ price range. blue in green is going to be the best one stop shop not only because the have the best japanese denim in the us but they also have some really nice high-end japanese clothing lines that you wont be able to find anywhere else outside of japan. se also has some japanese denim lines.

If you are looking for jeans with very good denim and very simple treatments, Blue and Green and Self Edge are going to be your best bets, by far, though depending on your body type, I think that RRL and Jeanshop may also be worth looking at. And they are not really that far apart, certainly not by DC standards.

Self Edge has a more "Americana" feel, and their jeans reflect this. If you want a heavyweight pair of jeans, and clothes from lines like Mister Freedom, Self Edge is the place to go to first. Blue and Green reflects a more fashion minded sensibility, which is reflected in their carrying difficult to find (in the USA) lines with seasonal collections like Factotum, ato, and Fullcount. I life both stores. Very different vibes. I would recommend that you visit both of them, as the brand mixes are quite different.

Didn't get a chance to check back here before I hit Soho, so I didn't know to stop by Self Edge. Did, however, hit Blue in Green. Great little store. Ten minutes is all it took to score a very nice pair of Eternal pre-washed raw selvedge jeans. Excellent fit, look great. Never heard of "Eternal," but I'm impressed. Thanks for your help people!

you will love those. eternals are such a cool jean and fit. they will also take on one of the most unique fading characteristics you will ever find in a japanese denim. excellent choice. take pics and post in the fit thread.
