Indeed. As a country based on immigration, in which the vast majority of citizens are the descendants of immigrants, many of whom became immigrants against their will, there seems to be a curious attitude towards more recent immigrants.....

Didn't read the latest reports. Assumed they had it right the first time. Below is probably the same article I read in a different paper.

I never thought having to show a valid form of ID was so preposterous. The fact it's used so cunningly to disenfranchise poor blacks? Yes, abhorrent..but the concept itself is pretty banal. Ya certainly have to show ID to do a hellabuncha other crap all over town...

If the people pushing voter ID were also pushing companion programs that made it easier for the id-less voters to get a card...it would seem totally reasonable.

But the fact remains that there is almost zero in-person voter fraud already, and since we don't have national identity papers, a lot of non-drivers simply don't have the kinds of IDs that the lawmakers deem acceptable.

I live in a voter ID state with laws that I assume are basically the same as the others. Among other things, you can use almost any ID; you can get a free ID specifically for voting, you can still vote without any form of ID and your vote will be counted as long as you come back with ID or apply for the voter ID cards within 5 days; it's extremely easy to get the voter ID card (you can use almost anything, like a utility bill -- or you can use nothing, and the state will try to verify your ID for you). Hell, the state will actually come get you and bring you to a local courthouse to get the ids. All you have to do is ask.

The idea that it's some kind of conspiracy to disenfranchise anyone is preposterous. But it's par for the course these days for the courts and the media to accept preposterous things as gospel.

I doubt poor people lack any and all forms of ID. I don't believe you can get a dime from Welfare office unless you have some form of identification, plus you cannot drive and you cannot purchase cell phone service in US without an ID, in many US states one cannot purchase alcohol or cigarettes without an ID document. Surely there are ghetto stores that sell anything to anyone, but poor people live all over not just in the worst ghettos of USA.
This voter ID argument seem to me a thinly veiled bullshit by libtard camp.

Oddly enough research shows 35% of Mexican born immigrants in the US want less immigration! Fortyfour % do not want an increase.

Well, they don't want poor Mexicans coming here and taking their jobs.

That is exactly what Caesar Chavez thought for quite some time.

Interestingly enough, you can't use certain IDs that people who tend to be more left wing have (can't use gov issued state college IDs), but you are allowed to use IDs that more right wing tend to have (gun permits/licenses).

Not to mention there just happen to be more DMV/gov offices to apply for a license in richer/white areas than in poor areas (and many of those in the poor areas are open only certain days of the month)

In fairness on point one, gun permits are issued by the state (and in both MN and WI they require you to have another state ID to get).  College IDs don't really validate anything other than you may have attended a university once.
