I am aware of the fact that there is not compelling evidence for harmful effect on humans, but ultimately if so many people prefer to avoid them for some time just in case, it's their choice to do so. EU has mandatory GMO labelling and there isn't any widespread panic.

Companies shouldn't be forced to label anything in my opinion.  Especially when there is no evidence there is any harm.  Companies already voluntarily label things like organic food and non-gmo food.  If you care about it, seek out those labels.

If the argument was "there is overwhelming scientific agreement that gmo causes harm" I could at least entertain the argument for mandatory labeling.

I did not realise you are on such tight budget to care about food prices in US. But if you are you need to inform yourself , cheap and abundant does not = best for your health.
Corn is one of the highest yielding crops and it is one of the worst for human health.
That is why obesity in US directly linked to government corn subsidies. The hungry years are well behind you in US, and yet corn is still number one. Stop eating abundant cheap shit.

....if you can afford it of course....

Does anyone else find it funny that the Europeans in this thread argue for less immigration into the US because it will change the culture/values/whatever, but they go "well Europe does it, so the US should too."?

We can go back and forth on this, but I think you are the one that needs to read up on the topic. Yes, selective breeding is a form of genetic modification. It is one which doesn't involve the addition of any foreign genetic material (DNA) into the organism. Rather, it is the conscious selection for desirable traits. Mankind has been doing this for thousands of years and I believe we are just fine.

Thank you nanny Bloomberg.

I understand you in a :" Fuck your Prius, I am driving Ford 350" sticker mood today, but I suggest come back when you calmed down and back to more rational state of mind.

Selectionism does nothing to genetic structure of the spicie. Not only that selectionism is 100% reversible. The moment humans stop selecting for recessive traits the specie be it plant or animal will revert to optimal form within few generations. GMO is forever and it affects other species that are not GMO yet by virtue of cross pollinating.

There are no epid. studies on affects of GMOs. GMOs are not just playing god , they also simply express pesticides and hormones that do not exist in nature and you are consuming them. And then again, no epid studies, so why label it right?

What's a customer right?  The right to force someone to label something?  I don't think so.

I don't give two shits about some company's profits.  I also don't give a shit what Europe does.  My ancestors fled that shit hole along time ago when their friends, families, and acquantinces were being killed and jailed for the religious and political beliefs.

Based on your posts, I don't think you're capable of understanding much of anything more complicated than a meme.

You should probably hang around here: https://www.reddit.com/r/im14andthisisdeep/

And chose Minneapolis? I thought in general South America was prefered. Well, at least you have a good basketball team.

I have a choice, if I want GMO free food, I can buy from companies that offer it.  If they don't advertise it, I can assume it isn't and avoid it.

I'm not from Minneapolis.  I chose to come here based on market conditions.

As for the implication that my ancestors are Nazis, my ancestors came to the US before WW2, and if I was the kind of person to get offended, I suppose the Jewish part of me would probably  be offended.
