Building a wall is only slightly less impractical, and little more likely to happen.

Even immigrants that have been here for 20+ years say immigration improves the country on a 2:1 basis.

Actually I would anecdotally argue (from my own 20 years of experience in US) that even people fresh off the boat very quickly conclude that they don't want more people off the boat to follow them. In other words, first gen immigrants within first 5 years become anti immigration or at least would like to restrict it . Why? Job competition/unemployment, depressed wages due to newcomers, not all newcomers even from the same country come with the same socioeconomic background and thus don't mesh well with each other and million of other factors. The more integrated, the more Americanised new immigrants become the less they want to see their 'uninitiated' brethren to come into the US,especially in large numbers or from areas known to be terrorist safe havens.
Example: Teacher or engineer from Chechnya coming to US as refugee during the Chechen -Russia war does not want more Chechens to come into the country and wave hi to him or speak to him in his native language at work.

The moment newly increased monetary penalties for hiring illegals start to outweigh the illegal profits gained by the business the deportation will happen automatically as 11 million will find themselves out of work in US. The crime will temporarily go up , but police unions will be elated as more police will be hired and more taxes temporarily diverted to law enforcement.
Problem solved.Just enforce the law stop calling the N.E. of the country some sort of proverbial "Safe Heaven".

Your scenario seems out of touch with reality. I believe that most immigrants first thought is to bring their family members (wife, child(ren), siblings, parents) and then close friends. That has long been the normal progression of events.

Maybe it depends on country of origin maybe and personal beliefs like political orientation. My step-father 25+ yrs in USA and my mother who is in USA for 9years are both for limiting illegal immigration and are both voting republican(Trump).

legal vs illegal.  I have almost never come across immigrants who are against legal immigration.

Are you first gen immigrant? Do you speak English with an accent? If both answers are no, then what you hear from immigrants is what they want you to hear.

Srsly, you almost never came across.....?
Do you think Polish immigrants want more Russians to come to US? Do you think French want to see more Somalis or Haitians.
Do you think Arabs in Brooklyn want to see more Jews to settle?
I give you even easier : how many E. European Jews do you think would welcome Orthodox Jews immigrating from errr, say, Ethiopia or Uzbekistan to their neighbourhood?
How many first gen immigrants who work in IT want to see more Indians to immigrate to US?

Yea, I am out of touch with reality.....but I like to be out of touch.

Family is different than the anonymous person that's going to compete with you for a job or help depress your wages.

It's nice and vague and undoubtedly true. Or do you not think that Mexico's leaving its border open for illegal immigration encourages its criminals to come here?

If Mexico sends all it's criminals over to the USA who will be left to bribe and pay off all the politicians? puzzled.gif

I grew up in an immigrant community in NYC and most of my close friends are also immigrants. G/f is from Colombia and has only been here for 10 years.  Previous g/f was an immigrant from my country.  The one before that was from Puerto Rico and the one before that was from Singapore.  I am literally surrounded by immigrants from various countries and continents.  I think I have a very good grasp of the immigrant experience

You are conflating issues.  The questions you should have posed are these:  How many Polish immigrants do not want more Poles to come to the US?   Do you think French want to see more French, Somalis more Somalis or Haitians more Haitian.

I work in IT and Indians almost always want to bring others here.  I will admit the trend now is it set up an office in India and shift the workload to India and pay good wages (for India)
