Let me guess, the buyer is from Nigeria?

My ex who is the most responsible person In the history of mankind and a brick and mortar business owner (who in person accepts credit cards) always paid for things she bought on Ebay by sending a check. She didn't want her information floating around Paypal and wasn't comfortable entering her credit card info online. She's one of those people that after an identity theft problem many years ago maintains a 750 plus credit score by minimizing potential exposure. If the buyer is willing to wait, what's the risk?

USPS money order should be fine ... and if you do want to wait until it cleared - make sure you let the buyer know that as well

I dont think it's a bad question, some of us really are really careful (to a fault at times), there might be things that we may have missed

and true about giving too much information to paypal ...

and this is not to rain on your parade - when you hand out checks ... there's a lot of information on that little piece of paper, too (name, bank, bank account number, signature)

I would prefer USPS MO to Paypal anyday.

I would do a money order... there is no downside once you have it in your hand.

I would not accept a personal check.

money ordr is the best way to go! no chargebacks,disputes,fees etc, i don't see a downside besides the wait. I wish all buyers of mine wanted to pay with MO on ebay.

It's not true that money orders or cashier's checks are risk free. A bank may clear a MO initially but if they realize it was counterfeit later they can take that money back out of your account.

That's why the only reliable way to get money is US Postal money order. You can cash it at your local post office immediately with no risk to yourself of having it 'bounce' later or some such nonsense. No such guarantees with bank checks. The only issue would be if the sum is for a large amount, sometimes the post office doesn't stock that much cash

There are some things that people can do with checks and money orders. If the person has a really low post count I'd advise against it. I've even heard of things done with us postal money orders. I don't think it's a much higher risk than paypal.

That's why I always get paid out in stamps.

That's cool to hear you can get paid at the PO. I didn't know that.

In stamps? what are you going to do with 1K worth of stamp?

A few years ago I went to the post office to cash a money order (not for much; maybe $200) and the clerk said to me, "What do you think we are, a bank?"

and if he pays with a personal check, tell him you have to wait until it completely clears BOTH banks. There's no risk involved if you do that. I thought this was common sense?

Make sure you don't ship after it JUST clears his though. If it has not processed through the federal part and your bank there's a chance he can still stop payment on it.
